BENEFITS OF RHINOPLASTY

RHINOPLASTY CAN IMPROVE YOUR BREATHING

Some patients feel insecure about a nose that's too big, too low, crooked (twisted) or feels out of proportion to the face.

Rhinoplasty can create a new, more harmonious nose shape and create accents for a sharper-looking face.

RHINOPLASTY BRINGS HARMONY FOR YOUR FACE

Some patients frequently experience airway problems such as difficulty breathing or snoring, which is caused by a deviated septum or in the patient's nose with an obstruction such as large scar tissue that obstructs breathing.

With Rhinoplasty, your doctor can straighten the septum or remove scarring to improve airflow through the nose.

RHINOPLASTY REVISION TO HELP CORRECT PRIOR FAILED SURGERY

A damaged nose is defined as a deviated (curved) bridge of the nose, a red nose tip with signs of protruding silicone,... The reason is due to the expertise and experience of the surgeon, or due to the use of poor quality rhinoplasty materials.

These nasal deformities depending on the extent can be corrected by rhinoplasty revision surgery to bring good results for the patient.

RHINOPLASTY SURGERY PROCESS

Rhinoplasty is a complex surgical procedure that requires the expertise and experience of a well-trained facial plastic surgeon.

Before each surgery, patients need to schedule a consultation with the surgeon to discuss their wishes, as well as consider whether their condition is suitable to undergo rhinoplasty surgery or not. And if so, what is the optimal rhinoplasty technique?

MODERATE SEDATION WITH LOCAL ANESTHESIA

Depending on the condition of each patient and the selected rhinoplasty technique, the doctor can use the anesthetic method of local anesthesia combined with moderate sedation also known as pre-anesthesia.

There are two methods of Rhinoplasty, which are closed surgery and open surgery.

CLOSED RHINOPLASTY TECHNIQUE

In this method, the doctor will make 1 or 2 incisions in the nasal vestibular mucosa, with a small incision about 1 cm inside the nose but not through the nasal columella. Then, conduct dissection to create a cartilage cavity to create the desired nose shape or correct the tip of the nose.

This technique is often applied in cases of Rhinoplasty with artificial cartilage and the patient does not need to intervene in the entire nasal structure.

OPEN RHINOPLASTY TECHNIQUE

In this method, the doctor will make 1 or 2 incisions in the nasal vestibular mucosa, with a small incision about 1 cm inside the nose but not through the nasal columella. Then, conduct dissection to create a cartilage cavity to create the desired nose shape or correct the tip of the nose.

This technique is often applied in cases of rhinoplasty with artificial cartilage and the patient does not need to intervene in the entire nasal structure.

During the surgery, the doctor can combine the reduction of the nose wing or grinding of the hump (if the patient's nose is protruding), and there will be exchange at the consultation step. After the surgery is complete, the doctor will close the incision with surgical sutures and bandages, and splints to protect the nose.

BEFORE & AFTER

RECOVERY PROCESS AFTER RHINOPLASTY

IMMEDIATELY AFTER SURGERY

The doctor will use a splint and adhesive tape to stabilize the nose and prevent any strong impacts that could potentially displace the newly positioned nasal bridge.

After surgery, the nose will feel sore and slightly congested, which are normal signs. Patients may also notice swelling and bruising.

However, all these symptoms will gradually subside. The doctor may prescribe some pain relievers, anti-inflammatory medications, and vitamins to help alleviate discomfort and speed up recovery.

Note that when sleeping, you should elevate your head with pillows and lie on your back, avoiding sleeping on your side.

AFTER 1 WEEK

The patient returns to the hospital to remove the nasal splint and remove the sutures.

Most patients are able to return to their normal activities and it is important to note that gentle activity in the nasal area should be observed.

AFTER 2 WEEKS

Swelling and bruising will be significantly reduced.

Patients can return to exercise but should avoid swimming and vigorous running and jumping movements.

AFTER 4 WEEKS

Swelling and bruising will be reduced by 80-90%.

You can see the shape of the new nose, even if you are not used to this new nose. It is not until about 3-6 months later that the new nose shape comes into a stable shape that is most harmonious with the face.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAN I HAVE A S-LINE OR L-LINE NOSE SHAPE VIA RHINOPLASTY?

When deciding to change the shape of the nose through surgery, women often find out information about the S-Line nose shape according to Korean standards, or the L-Line nose shape similar to European people but ignore the important factors, that is it should be in harmony with the overall face.

Moreover, the goal of Rhinoplasty is to help you become the best version of yourself while maintaining the natural characteristics of your ethnicity. Rhinoplasty is not meant to transform you into someone else or alter your appearance to resemble another person.

Therefore, before undergoing Rhinoplasty, the doctors at AVA Hospital will provide consultation and advice on a nose shape that best suits you.

WHEN CAN I WEAR GLASSES AFTER RHINOPLASTY

Wearing glasses too soon after rhinoplasty can cause indentations at the contact point between the frame and the nose, or it can deviate the nasal cartilage when the patient accidentally presses the glasses on the bridge of the nose.

Therefore, doctors often advise patients not to wear glasses or do sports and exercise for at least the first month after surgery. Or until the surgeon lets the patient wear glasses again.

In conditions where the use of glasses is mandatory, you can choose alternative solutions such as wearing contact lenses, using super-light Bridgeless Glass postoperative support glasses, or using adhesive tape to fix the glasses higher than the bridge of the nose to make sure the glass doesn't fall off.

WHAT SHOULD I PREPARE BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY?

Before Rhinoplasty surgery, the patient undergoes medical checkups and will be asked to stop taking blood thinners, anti-inflammatory drugs and some dietary supplements because they can increase the risk of bleeding; or increase drug interactions during surgery.

After surgery, you might need to stay in the hospital for 1-2 days while the doctors and hospital nurses monitor you because you may feel drowsy and disoriented due to the anesthetic. AVA Hospital always has staff and doctors watching to support you wherever you are.

IF I WANT TO HAVE A REVISION SURGERY FOR PREVIOUS RHINOPLASTY, HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO WAIT?

If you have a damaged nose or are not satisfied with the shape of your previous nose, you can consult for a Rhinoplasty revision.

Rhinoplasty is considered the "queen of plastic surgery" because this procedure requires a doctor's delicate aesthetic eye and high precision down to millimeters. Therefore, when correcting the damaged nose, the doctor needs to remove all the old cartilage, and wait at least 6 months to 1 year later until there is no longer any trace of swelling.

In addition, some patients may have sequelae of scarring or lack of tissue (skin), making nose correction even more difficult. And of course, the cost to correct the nose is often higher than the cost of the first rhinoplasty.

You can schedule an appointment with doctors at AVA Hospital to discuss your wishes, surgery methods as well as specific costs.
